Watch Description

This would be the Academy Award "W". Please note the band matches the ads exactly. Any other examples in the data base without this band are "not" Academy Award " W's " according to some members. I say that's rubbish. Next we'll have to need the ad matching faceted crystals and signed crowns for watches post 1949.

The closest match to this model is the Rawlins. The case looks identical. The Rawlins in the database has a different dial with no sub seconds.   A pic of the back shows a stamp of M2 for 1962. No  markings inside the case back.  The movement is a real surprise. A model 8AC with an M1 stamp putting it several years after the range in the database of 49-55.

Hello troops.

It has been My contention in the recent past that Bulova could possibly have named Watches differently based upon the mount on which they were Sold (Strap vs Bracelet).

We have seen 'variants' of a particular Model named this way. eg: "A" vs "G" ect and have proof in the vintage advertisements which confirm this.

However, We have not seen any particular Model within the same ad named differently - until now.

Conrad rose gold plated 17 jewel.

Thought was a 39 but maybe early 40,s. Left at jewelry store for an estimate to restore it .

They told me I'd probably be surprised at the cost but I would really have something if I got it running and all that. What do they run price wise when they don't work at all,get cleaned and a new band? Any ideas on whats fair and what this would be valued at if refurbished? Its really pretty.I' ve actually worn it at work one day,as is and it was beautiful.

For Your Re-Consideration

As some of you will recall, a while back I posted a watch that had for it's only support a listing in the "Complete Price Guide to Watches".  It was a tonneau shaped model dated 1928 and listed as "The Ambassador" in the Price Guide.  The general consensus--though there was some notable descent--was that The Price Guide must be in error, because we all know that the Ambassador was square.  Some even argued that the Price Guide is full of errors, though when challenged to present an example of an error in the Bulova listings, no one did.

Here is a pic of grandpaws watch that was passed down to me. It has  m3 on back which is a 1963 and seriel # is 407785. It is anti magnetic and shock resistant, and self winding. I dont think it has ever been serviced, however the number nine is upside down. I would really like to know how that happened because it doesnt look like it has been moved. It appears perfectly aligned. Would like to know what model, how much it cost new, how much its worth now and if a schematic or repair manual is available for it. Thanks E  EDIT: Changed to Jet Clipper 2012/07/28
