7th Edition Joseph Bulova School of Watchmaking Training Manual

To all of you who asked for a copy of the manual, it is now available under the information tab and sub tab of Catalogs Etc. for you to download. I am sorry to have to do it this way but so many of you had asked for it that with all of the time I spent on scanning it and all of the work from all of you who have sent me watches for repair or ordered lumed hands, it was necessary.

Thanks to every one for their support on this project and I hope you all enjoy the lessons you will be studying to become better at repairing Bulovas even if you have never cracked a case open before.

Can a wrong mainspring cause a watch to run fast?

Just wondering if a wrong main spring, say with a higher tension or different length would cause a watch to run fast. I have an 11ac watch that i'm certain has the wrong spring in that runsfast, everything else has been stripped, cleaned checked etc etc but I dont have the main spring to fit to try yet. I have one coming but just wondered if anyone else had come across this or if it does even make a difference.

Thanks

Bulova scarcity question

Hello everyone!

Just want to say, what a great website this is!

I have lots of different bulovas (mens and womens) mostly from 1955 and before from what I have researched.

My question is this, I cannot restore all of them so I am going to do several of them and wonder, what movements/models would be very scarce (mens)?  Any advice would be appreciated.

BTW this is for non accutrons but other bulovas

Thanks in advance for any advice

WTB - Crystal - 17.6mm x 21.0mm

I'm looking to replace a crystal on a watch which is as of yet unidentified.  The crystal is 17.6mm x 21.0mm.  The crystal is beveled.  There are two vertical bevels running from top to bottom on the crystal.  The watch may be a mix of parts, so if we can't match the bevel, that's not a dealbreaker.  At this point, I'd just like to locate a correctly sized alternative.  A decent picture of what I'm trying to replace is available here:

Thanks much!
