Want to verify this is a 1951 Thayer Model

with this year's break I would not be sure, we have Thayer ad of 1952, ad Thayer of 1953, and even ad Thayer of 1952 which has a dial-text DUO WIND

Based on the case date it would be a Duo Wind. If it was released a year or more later (which the newer movt may or may not suggest) it would have been possibly boxed and sold under the new name, but that would indicate a serious lag in production. I suspect that a lot of these wider date spans are caused by authorized repair shops receiving a replacement movt from Bulova. It could also be caused much later by any watchmaker wishing to restore the watch.
It's important to remember Bulova produced huge quantities of watches, and it's hard to imagine what might have been happening behind the scenes.
It may also be possible that Bulova would hold back runs of less popular watches and ship ones that were hot. Maybe the re-naming of these is an indication of this?
