I am inclined to say this is a Thayer. Based on all contributing factors, I think I have to go with movement date on this one.

1953 Thayer

Based on discussion outside this posting, I will agree we need to be consistent and date by casing moving forward. We have one previously ID'ed watch in the Db as a 1951 Thayer, so

1951 Thayer

I find it interesting that the Thayer advert mentions the sweep second hand but it's not present in the presentation of the watch.

Panel - let make a decision.

Bob - Thayer

Geoff - Duo Wind based only on case year

I'm in for Thayer

Something else to consider here- The date for the movt is stamped on the rotor, and the rotor may have been replaced, or indeed, the entire automatic module.

My gut says we are looking at a Duo Wind with a replacement movt or rotor.

Point taken, Rob. Another thing that needs to be considered is "Duo-Wind"  vs "Self Winding" on face. If that is a determining factor for transition from one model to the other, then if this is a Duo Wind, it's possible the entire movement/face assy was replaced with the guts of a Thayer. If case is identical and we are not entirely sure when the name change happened, that could seemingly make it more Thayer than Duo Wind? Maybe this one is case of "potato / potahto".

Rob, I'm interested in the line of thought. Can you be certain that the rotor is not original, as that would certainly help explain our issue?
