Consider the Golden Clipper 'O' for this watch based on this ad from 1971. It has the matching white whale and lighter color hands; white/black day/date, automatic, similar lugs...whereas the 'AB' has black hands, black whale

Ok that is understandable but mine looks identical to the other ad with the 1971 clipper so it was basically just a different watch all around correct

Yes, probably a different model OR a different variant of the same (Golden Clipper) model. A different model will have a different name, a variant would be Golden Clipper "A", or "B". The color of the whale, to Ken's point above is probably just contrast, white being easier to see on some dials and black on others.

There is a special tool. Any watchmaker could do it for you ( or you could buy the tool )

I gotta get out my Bulova model lists from near this period.  Again, I look for how many times a second letter in a variant corelates to a change in dial color (in model examples with same case and other features).  I'm %99 positive this will not be an "AB", but like I said earlier, perhaps an non-confirmed "AB" better discribes this watch than "Generic Golden Clipper" w/o any variant.  I am changing my vote from two ticks tentative to one tick unconfirmed.  That way it is still listed as an AB but indicates I don't think I/We will be able to confirm that ever..,

I think maybe it looks like the "O" in Ken's new ad...

two ticks as this is still a "GC".
