Watch Description

1969 Bulova Oceanographer 'F'

Case is a one piece all stainless steel, dated M9, case #2891 from W Germany; uses a split-stem and is top loading (crystal must be removed); signed crown is partially hidden; white dial with calendar window; movement is a manual winding Swiss-made 11BLCD; band came on the watch and is not a match to the ads, so likely not original, but is a Bulova band.

Ad collage from 1969/1970, with a snipet from an Oceanographer case info sheet.

Interesting Ken, I think this band was available on other models in 1969, is it possible that it just happened this way? It seems the watch you have would still be the F variant though, wouldn't it?

Yea, I think it is still the 'F', based on the info we have. I'm wondering if Bulova had used different -# after the model # to identify different options of the same watch, like a band. Perhaps the band was just picked up years later after the original failed, or the buyer saw it on another watch and decided to change it when bought; we'll never know for sure.
