This is has a 1946 case and 1947 movement. It is 10K gold plate. I believe this is the Clara Barton. This was another model I was hoping to find and was happy to pick up. I have replaced the band with an 8mm leather as close to the ad as I could find. This watch is pretty beat up but I didn't really mind too much as it was probably a nurses watch and would have been a daily wearer. The dial is in better shape than the case. I had fun finding and purchasing some Clara Barton postcards and such to go with it. Again if I am wrong I will have to redo all my photos! Thanks!
Hmm, something like this does make you think.
I typically date it based on the case, as the case is the major factor when determining the model of the watch. Here though we have what I assume would be an original movement, dial and hands that dates a year after the case was manufactured.
So which to use 1946 or 1947?
Thoughts?
Very nicely presented watch Kathy. It looks like you're having a lot of fun with this Bulova thing.
Totally agree that she's Clara Barton (photos AND watch). I'm inclined to a date consistent with the newest component. I see no reason that a movement produced in the first month of 1947 wouldn't be cased in a last month of 1946 case. I do think I would date this one to 1947.
