Inside the back of the dial the watch reads:
PAT JAN 11 1927
BULOVA
14K
Gold Filled
New York
The serial number reads:
9138671
Below the serial number there is an etched or hand signed mark thats reads:
j/35 followed by what looks like a D and a heart??....
The Ambassadors were 15 Jewels, during this (1925- 1930?) timeframe... It's not the 1926 or 1929 design (I have both ads) so I suspect it's a 1927 or 1928 "Ambassador?" Does anyone have either ad??
The similar (also plain, vs. engraved bezel) 15J "Envoy" models, are illustrated in both 1929 and 1930 ads, I have...
This could of course ALSO be another model entirely... if it's a lower number release???
Do you have the crystal (bezel opening) proportions, within .5mm x Xmm????
BEST :-) William
All, it's date stamped 1929, so assuming that the movement is original then its not going to be a 1926,27 or 28 vintage watch. Its possible is 1930, but again as Rachel's great grandfarther passed away in 1929, logic dictates that the watch is indeed from 1929.
Whilst the case does in deed vary slightly from that of the well listed plain Ambassador, other than the Senator, Fleetwood, Brewster and Revere, all of which have engraving of one sort or another, there aren't any other 1929 models that come close. The Envoy comes into play in 1930, after Rachel's great grandfathers death.
Are there any other suggestions?

Wayne,
I have a 1931, pentagon with point date code on movement, with gold inlay on sides as well as two small squares of gold on each horizontal bezel frame. watch is gorgeous. incredible condition with ivory-colored hands that have that Tiffany lamp look. in fact they look like enamel. dial is silver with numerals painted white. dial has signs of wear but light, just some fine scratches. serial on inside hinged case is 1226196. Do you think it is an Ambassador? still working to read serial on movement. she runs for ~12 hrs on one wind.
Thanks, Sam
