Welcome to myBulova KGBirk, this is a beautiful watch. I think you're most fortunate to have such a wonderful keepsake from your great grandfather. Diamond Excellency model watches were made for 5 or so years in the mid sixties, I think this is the first version. This one was also available in white gold.

My vote for ID is Diamond Excellency.

Hi KGBirk. Knowing this Bulova has been in your family for 3 generations is fascinating. I think it might be a 1969 instead of a 1966. Isn't that "M9" stamped on the case back? If so, that would make it a 1969. I think the serial number starts with a "Z" instead of "1". I'm curious about the numbers scribed on the case back. That must have been something important that your great grandfather needed to remember. Looks like 7 digits. What could it be?

I know it's not the best photo, I uploaded the wrong one, but it is M6 i'm 100% sure of that. Looking at the serial # it's definitely a "I" ( i ) but thank for your feedback, we believe the number etched on back might have been his drivers license number but were not sure. We think it was given for his retirement of the company he worked for Seal Test Dairy or given to my great uncle once he got back from vietnam... were leaning towards a retirement gift from his company. It's nice getting all the feedback on this watch. thank you again.

I see the "M6" now that I look at the darker photo. That number would drive me nuts until I figured out what it was. It might be the combination to the safe where he hid all his gold.
