Watch Description

10K white gold filled, 4 real diamonds set in silver/grey dial. White metal raised Bulova on dial, white lettering, white metal hands, baton hour markers and minute dotsM0 on case and mvmnt. Period Black leather strap in great condition, the type Bulova used, could be original. Stunning piece, I think it is a President variant, given the case and lug shape, and of course the date. Put in my 1960 President to compare. Has now been changed to Beau Brummell thanks to NOVA's sterling work.

Bob  Admin has set it up so when the root ID name changes, the checks are reset to zero across the board.  This was after much discussion about the model being ID'ed as one thing, rated, then at a latter time, being assigned a new root model name- yet the checks from the old ID remained w/ the watch.  It was decided it's far better to have new checks assigned when the model name changes then to have the old incorrect and/or inappropriate checks remain.  The watch, when renamed, shows up in the queue of New/Updated Watches, so members get to view the changes and assign the correct checks based on this change.  I had been in favor of this for a while, and think it's a good way to address the issue.  No checks are better than wrong/incorrect checks-IMO.

If there were a way to see the number of panel members who had voted, this would be helpful too.  A confirmed vote by any one panel member now appears as three checks in the rating. If we saw how many members had voted, this would allow us to see if there was consensus or at least a majority vote, as opposed to a vote of one.  It's just a thought that I keep tossing out there.  If there are ten panel members, and four have voted on a watch ID, this conveys a different meaning than if only one member has voted.  Right now, all ten members voting as confirmed would appear no different than a confirmed vote by one panel member.  You get the idea.  Not trying to complicate things, but trying to get as much information out of things the way they are now set up.   It could be as simple as:

Model ID Rating      # of Members Voting
               3 / 10

Where the number on the left represents the number of votes cast, and the number on the right represents the total number of panel members.

I agree Will. Or it could be as complicated as showing how many members voted for each of 1 check, 2 checks and 3 checks.

I agree that it would be a very interesting statistic, but I suspect you would be quite disappointed by the small number of ratings that are typically entered for most watches.

I may be a little disappointed, but would not be too surprised.  It would be nice to have the information to be disappointed or surprised, as the case may be.  I really believe it would be a plus to have folks like JP, DarHin and Bobbee on the panel.  They have shown logic and reason, and seem to have the passion. You can learn the Bulova facts from the website, but the passion is not a learned trait.

My understanding, Bob, is that when the model name is changed, the voting starts over.  That approach makes sense, as the prior votes applied to a different ID.  Panel members now need a chance to consider and vote on the new ID.

Several members, Myself included had cast an opinion post the recent ID change. The rating re-set once more to zero after the owner updated the images.

a slight snaffu.

Gotcha Mark, my bad!

There would appear, then, to be a programming error that causes the checks to be reset to zero whenever anything is changed in the listing, rather than just when the model name is changed, which is why the votes reset when you altered the model name and then changed again when you switched pictures.  You should be able to update pictures without resetting the model ID rating. Hopefully, this thread will alert Stephen to the issue.

I helped admin catch this by flagging the post.  Agreed adding pictures should not change the checks.  Editing or adding other root data should reset the checks.  ... like changing from 7 jewels (a forced entry now for jewel count used when jewel count is unknown) to the correct jewel count when info becomes known.  Good work admin, just a couple bugs to work out!!
