Inside the back of the dial the watch reads:
PAT JAN 11 1927
BULOVA
14K
Gold Filled

The serial number reads:

Below the serial number there is an etched or hand signed mark thats reads:

Rachel the Date Symbol adjacent to the movement serial number looks like the 1929 shield symbol.
Does your watch have yellow gold strips on the verticle sides of the bezel?
1929 Ad 7-1 Ambassador. attached. Do not get confused with the other two Ambassadors case configurations in the 1929 ads. I might add that your watch is a beauty.

Wayne,
I have a 1931, pentagon with point date code on movement, with gold inlay on sides as well as two small squares of gold on each horizontal bezel frame. watch is gorgeous. incredible condition with ivory-colored hands that have that Tiffany lamp look. in fact they look like enamel. dial is silver with numerals painted white. dial has signs of wear but light, just some fine scratches. serial on inside hinged case is 1226196. Do you think it is an Ambassador? still working to read serial on movement. she runs for ~12 hrs on one wind.
Thanks, Sam
I am working on getting a digital camera with Old Ticker's help

Hi Wayne and Rachel, This watch looks like the Envoy as seen the 1930 ad. What do you think?

Hi Bob,
The Envoy wasn't introduced until 1930. If the watch is dated 1929 it's an Ambassador. That's how Bulova introduced the new Ambassador in late 1929. Then, used up the old plain Ambassador cases and called them Envoys in 1930. I have a 1930 Envoy that I bought as an Ambassador & had to change it to Envoy because of this little wrinkle. It's all Bulova magic.

Thanks!
I think I should go back to my grandpas and look in the box where the watch was stored. There was another wrist band in the box. it was metal. I wonder if that was the original and the calfskin one on there now is not?....
I thought for sure I would have an easier time finding information about this watch due to the fact I still have the original case.
My Great Grandfather passed away in 1929 and the watch belonged to him. Does the circle date mark mean 25 or 29?
The watch reads PAT JAN 11 1927 but has a circle for a date mark which was used in 1925, right?
I also just read that Joseph E. Bulova died in 1935 and oddly the watch is hand etched with "j35 and then what looks to be a D and a heart?.....wonder if that id just a VERY odd coincidence or if that means something??
