I picked up this interesting watch this week. Think it might be a Captain but not 100% sure. The dial is different but I like it. It reads B-10K gold filled on the back. The band may not be original but goes well with the watch. Nice inscription on the back reads From Mother and Dad To Son. Thanks.

We have 2 ads in the Db from Nov. 1939 referring to this as "Captain". Ads then start calling it "Admiral" in 1940.
I think we are seeing a "promotion in rank". There are 3 Admirals in the Db, all dated 1940 and no Captains.
If watch was dated 1940, I would vote Admiral . With the 1939 date corresponding ads I would definitely call it
1939 Bulova Captain.

In reply to Captain it is! Cool by Geoff Baker
It's possible it was such an expensive and special gift (in 1939) that it was engraved generic so it could pass from father to son over generations as a family heirloom. Hand it to your "son" and say: "When your first born son gets married, you and your wife pass it on to him and explain it's significance". Just a random thought...
