Recently acquired this one... a real Mystery! 1924 is a guess. Movement is 8 1/2 lignes, case is 18K non-Bulova. I found a post on NAWCC site about a similar Lady Maxim (no photo). The case was 14K gold filled, but had the same manufacturer's stamp. Is this a BULOVA, or was it made for another company by BULOVA??

I've already stated my opinion privately, now openly. There is no evidence of a "Lady Maxim" in the ad data base, I agree it's a genuine Bulova movement, I don't agree Bulova labeled the dial. I suspect that the case is open to interpretation, but would be guesswork at best. Additionally in the post you stated the watch was mis-represented by the seller and you were going to return.
Logical conclusion to me would be if it had a Bulova marked dial, movement, and case, it would be a Bulova. But because we have nothing in the way of proof that Bulova even made a "Lady Maxim" it should be changed to Unknown or removed.
Uum, they did make a 'LADY MAXIM' Bob.
The movement is clearly Bulova and Bulova used American Standard Cases.
leaving the Dial.......which is seen again here http://www.mybulova.com/node/2379

Uhm Mark, where's the documentation other than a Post? I've got several of these also. I'm not saying it isn't a Bulova movement, I'm saying I doubt the authenticity of there being a watch named Lady Maxim made by Bulova.
Like your always saying Mark, Show me the PROOF!
Another point of contention would be we have other watches from the same period that are clearly marked Bulova, case, movement, dial etc. so what are the odds that Bulova only did ONE watch where they actually put the name on it in the twenty's.
In all my scouring of the ads in the data base, and all of the ads I've collected for the early years I've yet to see one watch that Bulova produced that had a model name on the dial, only the Bulova Name.
If it walks like a Duck..................

Hmmm...lets see, Bulova used and then bough the case company, the mvmnt is a Bulova and the dial says Lady Maxim...sure looks Ducky to me...Quack Quack !!!
So lets toss out all of those Excellency marked watches that arent in the ad section...not to mention all of the Accutrons we dont have ads for...just because we dont have an ad showing this watch does not mean it isnt what it says it is. It only means we dont have an add, and your reasoning can be used just as well to authenticate this watch, should you choose to look at it as being authentic instead of believing it isnt.
So lets not just blindly say it isnt what it says it is, and what reasonable logic says it is ( Bulova used the case company, Bulova mvmnt, named dial) just because we dont have an ad. Remember those cut corner Lone Eagles we all love and agree are authentic, without a shred of advertising proof.
It isnt 4 stars but it shouldnt be an unk or non Bulova just yet either.

Shooter, Bulova didn't buy American Standard until 1949. During this early period American Standard produced cases for a lot of other watch companys. Do we call those Bulovas also? NOT!!!
What the hell are you talking about with the "Excellency's" ???? You yourself said "should you choose to look at it as being authentic instead of believing it isnt" I have looked at it, examined it, researched it, It isn't a Bulova, simple as that.
Quack, quack
