Wanted to share this vintage find I only recently configured to my liking. When the watch bug bit me in the last couple of years or so, I set out to find a vintage mechanical watch I could still wear today that not only didn't look anachronistic, but also matched my personal style. At the time I started my search I was favoring Bulova, having just bought two iterations of the latest American Clipper consecutively.
Spent some time scouring eBay, but it didn't really take that long for me to stumble onto this watch. Soon as I saw the spartan dial, I knew this was a watch I would wear. After taking delivery I did what I could to find out more about the model, which led me to this very useful website. In my readings around here and in some of the adverts made available, this looks to be a variant of the Diamond Excellency (Q). Satisfied with the info, I scoured eBay again for a NOS Bulova leather strap, eventually finding the lizard skin strap I now have it on. Lastly, I had the crystal replaced. The previous crystal wasn't too bad in its wear and tear, but since I felt like the dial's elegance was rooted in its simplicity and minimalism, I really wanted an unobstructed view of it that a new crystal would allow. The watch wears so well and feels like it weighs next to nothing on the wrist. I had reservations about the smaller dimension compared to the modern watches in my collection, but this was a non-issue after all.
Thanks for letting me share, and being part of the fun in my find!
Welcome and thanks for sharing. That's a real beauty, I have a personal weakness for the diamond dials. By 1975, Bulova had begun to identify watches by a number not a name. This one was pictured in the 1975 linebook0198 as
1975 Bulova Model "12317-4Y"
I like your choice of strap - it's perfect.
