Dave I think you are spot on with this one as confirmed by the 1971 Linebook BAWD0177.  I was surprises by the linen dial but it matches on all points. It would be a first for the database. 1971 Bulova Oceanographer "P".

Hello,

Happy New YearI

I was just getting ready to clean and service a Oceanographer with the same J-3055 Case. I have worked on quite a few Oceanographers and the were all 289X series and 70X series cases made in West Germany if I remember correctly. Does anyone know anything about the Japan made cases? I am guessing they are pretty rare?

I can't comment on how many cases where made in Japan for Bulova, but I did find this reference in their 1971 Annual Report detailing the new factory in Tokyo anf their 'new' subsidary Bulova-Citizen Company, Ltd.
