This one was a shot in the dark purchase. Auction title was "Bulova" with the case s/n and 3 photos. The lead photo was of a different non-Bulova watch (name starting with a"B") that was missing the crown and stem. I made an offer ($28) based on a single photo of front and one of the back that appeared to show a hole punched in the caseback (turned out to be a shadow/reflection of the lug) and the curious inscription, that I love.
It arrived really clean with no damage or appreciable wear besides a few crystal scuffs & scratches and is keeping near perfect time.
"To a Great Chef From The Waiters of Camp Pontiac 1953"
Camp Pontiac is a kid's summer sleep-away camp located 100 mi. north on NYC in Copake, NY and was apparently founded in 1922. Historical data is pretty sparse, but it also appears cabins could be rented on the grounds off-season. Awardee and circumstances of this presentation will likely forever remain a mystery.............
