Watch Description

I need y'alls help. I just "won" this watch on eBay. I'm afraid that this movement has been re-cased. But I'm not the expert, you are.

This watch has a 15 Jewel 1946 movement. It does not have Bulova printed anywhere on the case but does have what appears to be a Bulova serial number etched on the back of the case. On the interior of the case "Cortina Trading Company" "Case Made in Hong Kong" is printed. Finally, the movement holder inside the case is unlike anything else I've ever seen.

All that being said, the Dial is in remarkably good shape and it winds, sets, runs and is so far keeping good time.

Yes I would agree that this watch is a Non-Conforming mix of parts, non Bulova case.

Agreed, The 10AA (if that is what the movement is) was made in the mid 1920s. Everything else looks to be decade later.

Non-Conforming.

Interesting. I agree the case is 3rd party and not Bulova. Case appears to me to date to the 1960's (Hong Kong). The dial most likely came with the case. I am a bit mystified by the movement. As Stephen stated, 10AA movements in the database all date mid 1920's but they are all serial numbered movements. Yours has no s/n and appears to have a triangle date code under the "W" of watch. The triangle was used in 1926, 1935 and 1945.

It's hard to tell in your photo, are you sure the movement is marked 10AA? Could it be 10AK or something else? Without knowing for sure, it's hard to date, but is either 1935 or 1945.

My call is also that the watch is a marriage of parts. But hey, it looks cool. Wear it and enjoy it - I would.

Non-Conforming, Date needs to be based on movement.

Cool, thank you! That makes a lot more sense. The movement date code falls squarely in the middle of 10AK production at 1945.

1945 Non-conforming it is.
