Watch Description

The watch was purchased on eBay. It is 26mm in diameter. It was sold to me as a "woman's watch", but considering its age (1939), I'm not 100% about that claim, mostly because the dial has a military look. If you can confirm it was a male or female watch, that would be appreciated!

Certainly a mens watch and would date to 1939 as you indicate. I'm not sure happened to the messed up date code, code it could have been the 1939 date shield symbols at some point :-)

We have another 1939 watch like your in the database marked as 'Unknown": https://mybulova.com/watches/1939-unknown-9746

Thanks for the link to the other watch. They are indeed identical. Mine came from a seller located in Canada. Could it be a model sold on the Canadian market?

I worked on the crystal yesterday evening. I tried sanding and buffing it with Polywatch. I got the scratches out, but the crystal remained foggy, even after multiple applications of Polywatch. More sanding and buffing didn't work, soI'm going to order a new crystal. But as a temporary (read : desperate)

Watch after crystal lacquer-based "restoration"

solution, I applied a coat of lacquer on the crystal and the results are not half bad!

Lacquer, now that's a great idea, would fill in any scratches. Came up a treat and looks brand new.

Agreed, it's definitely a men's watch and a pretty uncommon shape (round) for 1939. This is a watch model we have yet to identify; and I have to say it's the nicest example I have personally seen of this watch.

It is great to see a twin to my unknown. Awesome condition.    Hopefully one of us will finally figure out what the model is.

I like this one, I wish I had a name for it but I don't. Hard to tell on the Canadian origin, it's possible I guess but we have no way to know. We know Bulova advertised in Canada with some slightly different names. By the way - I think the crystal turned out quite well, nice work.

These are really fantastic watches.  I have a smaller ladies' version to match.

Sure is a sweet dial... reminescent of the Clipper we were searching for a long time.

Beautiful watch. It has an almost military A-11 inspired dial. The cathedral hands are gorgeous.
