Watch Description

This was an "as is" purchase from the bay. I wasn't expecting too much but it runs. It's a little tricky winding. Have to hold the winding stem in a certain position to wind it. I think there may be a problem with the setting lever spring but haven't done anything to the watch yet. It's exactly the way received right now. There's another one on here like it with blue stones on the case listed as unknown. This one has 4 green stones and two white stones and the dial is different from the other example.

The watch is unknown. Part of what I call the second Empress family, characterised by having 2 diamonds, 4 sapphires or emeralds and no Dust-tite. In total there are 5 members in this family.

Thank you for that information Alex. I love these art deco styled cases. It would have been fascinating to have seen how the molds for them were made and watch the cases being made. Some metal artist really took pride in their work designing these, even going so far as putting engraving on the backs that no one except the end user would ever see. And I'm sure they had to make more than one and they all had to be exactly alike. There were no CAD or CNC machines back then, so most likely the molds had to be hand carved by the artists.

Indeed. You see that the bottom rim is even engraved. They did that in 1923 for one year and stopped it. For this second Empress family they reintroduced this.

The Bulova Minerva is a close match, but certainly different enough to be a different unknown model.

Awesome ad find Plainsman. A new name. I can't tell for sure if it's like mine. The description fits, but the drawing seems to have a crystal with curved sides. I'm not sure if it matches.
