Watch Description

Good evening Bulova fans,

I bought this Bulova online, I think it's a Bulova 1929 Buckingham, I just received and didn't take the time for open the case yet.

The watch is working ( second / min / hour ), I don't know if the bracelet is the original ( the buckle is not), looks similar to the one on the Bulova advert for this model.

I added few pictures of the watch.

I wish you a merry Christmas !

Best Regards

Dear Pandaroyal, this is indeed the Buckingham. A wonderful model with hidden lugs. Looking forward for you to look inside and confirm the serial Numbers and movement to establish the year.

Nice watch thanks for sharing it with us. This is a fairly unusual one. First we have seen with a black dial and raised numerals. Hands appear correct to the lumed ads. I suspect the dial has been refinished to black using the original hands. When you open it, look closely at the dial for a notch, usually triangular, in the edge. That is a good sign the dial was refinished. It is a locator to hold the dial steady during the refinishing process.  The raised numeral dial could be original to the watch and what we refer to as the "dress dial". There are multiple examples of other watches from this time frame that were only advertised as "lumed" that show up with this unadvertised style dial paired with non-lumed hands. Based on the excellent condition of the leather strap, it is most likely a superbly matched replacement.

Not much doubt it's a Buckingham, noting variances from period ads.

Looking forward to seeing the inside of the case back and movement to assign a year of production.

I don't think there's a question that the case is anything but Buckingham, it was advertised in both 1928 & 1929. The dial has been refinished to the black it is now and it appears the lume has not been reapplied. It's hard to tell if the hands are original but they certainly are original looking. The strap is most likely a replacement.

I wait for confirmation of the case serial number and movement date code to verify the year. Please add as soon as possible?

I owned one of this model many years back but was surprised that I never added it to the dB. Apparently it left my collection prior to my joining myBulova.

Good afternoon all,

Thanks for your quick comments, I will try to open it but I'm not familiar with this kind case, I'm not sure how open it, I don't want to break it.

Good point for the dial, on my watch the numbers are not lume and the dial looks paint ( no rails like the one on the advert ). Once open, I will post picture.

Regards

Super sharp looking watch, congrats.  That does look like an unusual back to take off so I don't blame you for being cautious.

Quick question from me. Are the numbers raised?
