Picked this old gent up today after he gave me a "Huh?" when I saw the dial.
Looks to be in great shape... missing a seconds hand which I'll have to snag from one of you of course!
Anyone seen this dial on a Conrad before?
I have a theory on these Diamond Dial watches (which I own many), I believe Bulova made the optional dials like this and also the lumed numbers dials for many of their watches available to the Jewelers and Dealers so they could upsell the customer at point of purchase for extra profit.
I have a Mizar Diamond tester and have tested all of my Bulova cased Diamond dial watches, they all test real...I also have a few of the Frankenbully cases with the matching aftermarket "Diamond Dials" and not a single one tests positive for a real diamond.
We know that Bulova nationally advertized the prices on all of their watches, and that would translate to a set retail price and maybe a very small profit margin for the sellers. If they made these available, the Jeweler could put in the upgraded dial and add greatly to the profit margin if they chose to do so.
Maybe I am way off base, but maybe not??
