Vintage Sylvette

Hello all. New to the group. I have a 1930 Sylvette (my wife's) with a 6AP movement. It needs a new hair spring, but I can't find one anywhere. Is there a compatible one out there? I heard Breguet may be a possibility, but can't find any info. Any help would be appreciated!

Your best bet would be to source a working replacement 6AP mvement from eBay. It will probably cost you about the same as just the hairspring if you could even find one.

The complete balance assembly for a 6BA is supposed to be interchangeable with the 6AP. There's one on ebay right now for $7.99 + $4.99 shipping.

Sounds like a strong lead, any interchange charts out there?

No sir. I can't confirm that it's an accurate interchange for the 6AP. I've never personally tried that swap out. I have tried about 10 other examples of parts they say are interchangeable that are not listed in the 1952 Bulova parts interchangeable catalog and they worked flawlessly. The supply of parts for these real old Bulovas are drying up and like Danno said, I've gambled on old movements that were supposed to have the part I needed in good condition and sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. This part is $13. If it works that's great. If it doesn't, he's out $13. A movement will probably cost between $30-$40 and he might get lucky or might not.

Well, just to follow up, my watch guy found a damaged 1930 Miss Liberty model in working order and was able to repair the Sylvette. All other options being exhausted of course. Bit of a shame as the Liberty is a beautiful case. But this one has a damaged crystal and face. And is now also missing a hair spring.....

I'd like to think that it's value now exceeds the cost of repair 😂
