Are the 20s/30s spring bars 1.5mm in diameter?

Submitted by alwayscode390 on December 3, 2023 - 8:49pm

I have a 1929 unknown tonneau shape 15mm lug width case watch that I need spring bars for.

Am I supposed to use 1.5mm diameter spring bars?

If not, please point me in the right direction to what size to purchase and where to find them please.

Thanks!  ---1929 bars

I find that the early 20s/30s springbars are indeed thicker than modern one. I've just measured a set of mine in at 1.8mm. Width for the mens starts at 14mm up to16mm wide (lug gap width).

I appreciate you checking that for me.  Even though the main part of the bar is thicker ... are the actual tips that go into the lugs all universal in diameter , or will I need to check for that size as well?

It's my experince that the holes in the lugs on the 20/30s watches are indeed larger than modern watches. This may be due to wear, but the springbars I have are certainly thickr all round on the early 20/30s watches. I'll look to take a comparison photo and add here to show the difference.
