Bulova Spaceview "Retro Clock" made of solid brass including the back case and lock ring, case Date unknown, the only thing not made of brass is the setting stem which is stainless steel, The upper back case is stamped "BULOVA WATCH CO" and the lower back case is stamped "C08156" and below that "PATENTED", Inside the back case stamped in black ink is "4/8", It has a "Gilt" Movement with white alpha hands and is stamped with "214" "BULOVA" and "U.S.A" and "N1", Removing the base by unscrewing 2 screws reveals the main body is stamped "WEST GERMANY", The movement fit into a thick dowel sleeve that in turn fits into the dowel clock body and in that way the dowels ensures proper movement alignment in the other wise too large of a clock body without the sleeve.
Great watch and great ad. I'm thinking I. Magnin & Co made the case for these re-designed Accutron clocks. While subject "SpaceView" Accutron is different than the accutron in the ad, it will not matter, as there is no official "Bulova Model Name" for this configuration.
I'd go with Non-Conforming, since we probably won't ever find a Bulova model name.
One definition of "Non-Conforming" is loosly "a Bulova-made movement, dial, and case put together into a configuration other than that of original Point of Sale". I'm paraphrasing here. While we do have several "Non-Conforming" watch records which have "parts other than Bulova", we keep those records for the information they contain, even if Bulova never produced the configuration or made all the "parts". I'd say we can keep this record, with its non-Bulova made case, since we have a nice third party ad for a company doing this re-issuing. It shows the varaition of third party use of Bulova Accutrons, in this instance.
It does seem a shame to relegate to Non-Conforming based on third party case...but that's one choice we have for this clock.
I'm also fine with Accutron Clock, as many of our "Clock" ID's are based on style vs actual model name. It serves as a "catch all" for clocks until we find possible model names/ads.
