Do we have any Excellency series watches dated after 1966?...or after 1960?? No, but we do have many that are part of the "Excellency Collection"...Go back and re-read this post and the post linked at the top of the thread, It looks like you were the one Mark, that could not accept the fact that this watch was a "Excellency" of some sort, in your words,
"Can't be an 'EXCELLENCY' Greg, the Jewel count is wrong.
The GS Crystal pack is indicating the Glass fits Case # 2687 and the 'EXCELLENCY' D.
They are not one and the same.
'EXCELLENCY' - 21 Jewels."
The case on this one is closed, it now has a name, and as I stated earlier, another myth, opinion, or belief is put to bed by fact.
ExcellencE collection Greg, not Excellency - there's a difference.
We do see several Watches of this era named 'DIAMOND'
Diamond Dream, Diamond Empress, Diamond Goddess. Diamond Excellency is not indicating that the subject is a part of the Excellency Series it's merely a model name, a part of the Excellence Collection.
Hairs can be split ad infinitum, but the fact remains that this watch is as it is named, Diamond EXCELLENCY,quack, quack. And why NOT say the Excellence Collection is part of the Excellency range? It seems like natural progession, like evolution. Also, there are two pics of this model on page three of this thread, with "Excellency" printed on the dial in a style we have seen on other Excellency models. It's an Excellency, it's got 17 jewels. Get over it.
EDIT:- Since finding new evidence in new ads, the "Excellence Collection" has nothing to do with the model names, as this "sticker" is used with other models, as with this 1969 ad and many other new ads.
In reply to Are any more votes coming in by bobbee
Could someone- any member with time/desire- summarize the votes to date? It's kinda hard to remember how folks have voted up till now, what with all the lively discussion- but can be done. I've read "Finnigan's Wake", "The Stranger", and "The Fall", and they were easier to summarize than this thread....LOL I have since become a card-carrying member of the PPPP (Please Put Protmanteau in its Place).
I'm voting for Diamond Excellency "C" , but would only give two ticks if published as such.
If published as base/generic Diamond Excellency", I'd give three ticks, but feel it doesn't convey as much information as my first choice, even with a two tick rating.
Thanks
If we are having difficulties getting enough "votes" to publish this (and other) watch(es), perhaps we could consider "counting" my vote of "Diamond Excellency "C" as generic "Diamond Excellency", and the variant stuff could be worked out later? By definition, a Diamond Excellency "C" is a member of the base/generic "Diamond Excellency" model series. Would this help things along?
Made up example:
2 votes "Diamond Excellency"
2 votes "Dianomd Excellency C"
2 votes "Unknown".
In this made-up example, we are at a stalemate. To get it published, we count the two variant votes among the generic vote of which they are a member....
Just a thought... The variant stuff seems to make the ID'ing process more work, but may also give more information (although information resulting in a two tick tentative from me regardless).
