1940 Lone Eagle. I purchased this one on a rawhide cord band that had a badly damaged clasp attachment point that is was unusable. Band likely had smaller diameter cord, and when the rawhide was put on, it blew out one of the attachment clamps at the clasp and also disfigured the cord clamps due to the leather being too big.. Band is pictured below. The cord clamps match the obviously LE end pieces between the lugs. Clasp is marked "B/R" and shows heavy plating wear to wrist side, like it was worn a very long time. Watch is excellent and keeps time.
I have added a cord band (ladies') for the time being so it can be worn, but retain the original band pieces for reference.
Watch would appear to be an "A", however it may be a variant we haven't identified yet based on band. My thoughts: We have ads identifying "A" and "F". We have identified at least one other variant (black dial/unengraved) . So, we have engraved and unengraved cases, and black dial. That accounts for 3 of 6 letters A-F. The only other logical case/face variation could be engraved black face.
We have always thought this model LE only came on metal bracelets because of lack of evidence otherwise. Perhaps this is evidence that they also came on cord bands, accounting for the gaps in the variant letter progression.
I'm not suggesting we try to assign a variant letter besides "A" which would be based on case and face, just putting the band variant possibility out there for consideration.
