thanks to nova novice i recently found uot that academy awards were highly sought after. my question is : of the many different kinds are there some scarcer than others? are there some more plentiful than others? any info along these lines would be greatly appreciated. i simply want to know what to be searching for. thank you j foley
My 2 cents - Bulova sold them for two years '50 & '51(?) but I think they actually made the watches in '49, '50 and '51. Most of us agree that they made and sold them as other models after '51. - They're all scarce. Perfect condition is harder to come by, as is white gold. Display boxes in good condition add value to watches but are not scarce (but dang it, they sure seem to sell for a lot!)
If your intent is to collect rare Bulova's there are models that are 'more scarce'. If you looking to make money buying and selling Bulovas.........
God Bless you and good luck!!

thanks geoff for your insights. my reason for asking is i have an academy award, (not for sale) and was just wondering if i could learn more about them. my idea has never been to make money, its my hobby. i do think buying, selling, trading, and what slight repair work i can do adds to my enjoyment. i am also a coin collector and have always looked for the scarce dates regardless of the condition. it is my intent to collect rare bulovas and if im perfectly honest all rare and vintage watches. i hope one day to be able to contribute to the forums with the knowledge of you guys. soooooo if you dont mind what should i be looking for. the moneys tight here as it is all over i guess and folks are turning loose of things they wouldnt have a few years back, so i look for?????? j foley
Well, 1st your going to want the men's with the curtain dial. They are the most difficult to find.
Then you'll go after the two tone X or quadranted dials and in both white and yellow gold.
Getting them in the original display would be very beneficial.
Finding the whole package is a major find.
Then there's also the ladies.
After years of hunting and spending alot of cash, you have a collection.
The big problem here is that I still don't have all them in white gold! lol

Over achiever? nawwww, just a crazed nutbar Buladdict getting his fix! On the more seriuos note, it has taken about 6 years to find these AA's. I've had several duplicates to but I kept the best and sold the rest. The rest of the display is where I stage my inbound works in progress.

both of your collections are beautiful. but is there one of the model nos. you would consider more scarce than others, or one more plentiful than others. i picked up from your conversations that the silver ones may be harder to find. anything else. while on the subject what does a wrong way look like. ive been invited to go thru an old jewerly store way back in the sticks next week. lady owner wants to get rid of vintage stuff and trade ins, says they wont sell. just need to know what to look for. keep you guys and gals informed if i find anything
