1927 Bulova Curtis 17J 9AN with Square date code, refinished & relumed Butler dial with refinished Cathedral hands. 14 K White Gold filled hinged case with a NOS 12K Gold filled Handi-fold rolled edge mesh band. The movement has been completely gone through with many new parts including a new mainspring. I received this as a Christmas gift last year (2010) with a bunch of other vintage Bulova parts watches, and finally finished it up today installing the new band...Oh well, some things take time...
**Update 9-9-12 Resubmitted to the panel for name correction to "President Madison" due to new ad found by Mark (FifthAvenueRestoration). The new ad is very hard to read, but the watch pictured looks like a match.
**Update 9-14-12 Model year changed to case serial number date.
In reply to Why only 1 Star? Nice one by FifthAvenueRes…
I haven't tried that yet, still waiting for the kit to arrive, should be here next week...A certain Dial Co. that has been discussed here recently with out naming any names, did the work, I just pulled it and sent it in...It took about 3-4 weeks turn around, and turned out pretty good, too bad you didn't have the same luck.
I show 2 stars, but the ad is from the watch bible, so that may have some effect...
In reply to where the hell do you find a by Ellierose
You do a lot of searching and pray for a lot of Luck Ellerose...I found this one on the bay along with 5 others, 3 were the same and the other 3 were all different including a rare Chrome & gold Speidel Chain Co. "The Ace" tthat will look good on my LE 5000 (as soon as I find one!) ; )
Yes, Fifth, the lid is off.
I mentioned last week that the only evidence we have for the Curtis model name is the Price Guide, which you guys claim to not trust. No one seemed concerned about that. So, the Guide is good enough for the Curtis, but not good enough for my "Ambassador"? The Price Guide is also the only source we have for the Athlete, which I also pointed out last week, and got no response. What's up, guys? Does consistency have no place in watch model identification? Some days you feel like trusting the Guide, some days you don't?
The guide just that, a guide, but they do get the names for the older watches from some source, and many of the named watches they feature have been supported by ad's on the database.
As many '27-'30 ads as we have here, it s funny that this watch is never shown, its not that rare of a watch, so they must have sold a few...
I'm on the fence on this one... if its 2 stars, thats fine with me until a Bulova ad appears.
