Just found this N9 Oceanographer from a ebay seller fergyoo5 in California, and then an identical one from another ebay seller garcoininc in New Jersey. Neither had pictures or data on the movement. The case and back are identical to my N8, as are the numerals and hands. Being a major sporting event commemoration item, the color of the dial is different. I will look in mybulova database and see if this is listed in either 78 or 79
Hi Geoff,
I have now found three examples of this watch on the bay with the same case, movement, and dial font, and they were all Oceanographers. I save the listing pics of two of them. Even the blue on the dial of one is the same, though my ebay photos makes it look blackish
Unfortunately, I find no ads or examples in the Db.
However, I could go tentative on Oceanographer based on researching on eBay. I found 6 more of these in identical casing with identical face font, two with blue dial. All were face marked as Oceanographer 333 and of the same time period. My next question was where were they coming from? All sellers were in the US, not "watch mill" countries. I have to believe this face/case/movement combination is legit Oceanographer and all Bulova.
1978 Oceanographer - tentative. noting Bulova custom award face and lack of "proper" documentation.
For me, this one is a "if it walks, quacks and looks like a duck....." :o)
