Watch Description

Watch was my Grandfather's who has passed away. It works well other than it needs a crystal and some paint on the second hand. It would be great if someone could let me know what size and type of crystal it needs. Thanks

If you can, please take a picture of the inside if the back of the case and may be able to help you.

Nice looking heirloom!

It is not certain by 1976 that all Bulovas were given model names or if they were being identified only by a model number. This 1976 ad has a similar watch in gold, and there is a post referencing the same watch from the ad with the Buccaneer name.

Hey Andersok,

Nice find! It does indeed look like the last watch in that picture except a different colour.

I have taken the watch in to be fitted with a new crystal and to be overhauled.

Thanks

Hi Cliff, welcome to myBulova. I think you're very fortunate to have your grandfathers watch, I'm a big fan of family heirlooms too. I'm glad to see you're having it brought back to life, I hope you have fond memories of you grandfather while wearing it.

By the mid 1970's Bulova had stopped naming all but a few models. Our advert library ends about this time period and we find very few ads post 1975. Part of the reason is that quartz watches were coming into the market and for the most part we limit ourselves to the pre-quartz, or mechanical watches. Technically, we stop our efforts at 1980 for that reason.

The ad Ken linked above, the Buccaneer, is a possibilty. My vote would be a tentative Buccaneer for your watch.

I'm good w/ tentative Buccaneer.

The thread Ken links to above has several ads which suggest Cliff's watch may be a Jet Star.  The Buccaneer ad in that thread has a slightly different case than Cliff's watch, IMO.

Reconsidering the Buccaneer ID in light of Jet Star ads.

I went back to that ad, I'm pulling back on the Buccaneer ID too as that watch case is different. I'm not sure I see the Jet Star ads you're referencing Will?

Back to Unknown for now.....sorry Cliff
