1959 was quite possibly renamed as the American Clipper.

1957 Bulova Watertite Duo Wind (probably no variant or redial "E")

I agree with the admin about redial

Hello Watchnovice, welcome to myBulova. I don't think Bulova did a red dial so it's likely that at some point yours was refinished to the red it is now. It's quite common to add these rather striking colors to vintage watches, I think yous really looks good. I agree that your watch is the Duo Wind model from 1957. With proper service it should give you years or reliable service. thanks for sharing it.

1957 Bulova Duo Wind (I'm going to leave off the "E" variant because of dial update)

Thank you so much for all your help.

The red dial had definitely thrown me, when I was searching for an ID myself. Glad to know it’s because it’s a redial.

I will be getting it serviced as soon as I can.

Thanks again!

The Watertite 'E' and American Clipper had almost identical dials, with the applied numerals and the long trilons with the lume dots, and the same hands. The Watertite in the ad above has a stainless steel case with a more curved flowing lug design. The American Clipper used a RGP case w/ SS Back that matches the subject watch. Here is a comparison of the two cases:

I would say that the subject watch is a 1957 American Clipper with a non-original dial color.

1957 American Clipper noting non-original refinished dial. Cool watch, the red is quite a statement!

Question from me... DId the Watertite become the American Clipper?

What is the earliest advert we can find for a American Clipper?

It might come down to a year of issue, but I do suspect that it's an AC.

The American Clipper (model 1175) first shows up in the 1958 pricelist, and later changed to model 13263 around 60/61. Model 1175 was also used by the Duo Wind 'C' (which was a non-luminous model). The earliest American Clipper ad for this style I can find is 1958.

Because of the lugs I am going to say American Clipper noting the possible redial.  I think the red dial is very striking.
