Watch Description

This is a watch given to me when I was 14 years old in 1956 by my grandfather. It was purchased in the USA. I had it refurbished by Bulova through Gordons Gold in London, Ontario in 2013. It is a self winding, antimagetic, waterproof, shock resistant, 10 kt rolled gold plate. All information as supplied is on the back of the watch. It is Swiss made.  It currently does and always has kept great time. I would welcome any information anyone could provide relative to the model of this timepiece, what it might have cost when new in 1956, etc. I am unable to find this watch in the Bulova archives. This watch has very great sentimental value and I have no intention of selling it..

Welcome bobio - most of us value heirloom watches very highly, you are most fortunate to have this beauty. Look thorugh the ads we have on site - you'll see watches selling $35-70 in 1956. The jewel count might determine the model. My first guess would be either a Clipper model or perhaps a model Bulova referred to simply as the '23'- (think 23 jewels). It looks like that when Bulova serviced it they added the current style font for the "Bulova" name on the dial. You'll also see the older style when you peruse the adverts. We have a very similar watch in the db right now logged as an Unknown model. How wonderful it is that you still have the gift from your grandfather! Congratulations on caring for it so well over all those years.

Geoff thanks for your kind comments.. I was told that when Bulova serviced my watch that they didn't change or upgrade anything. I checked the "before" photo and the font looks the same..

Looking at the font in the ad, I am inclined to agree. That B looks bigger than the other letters, very unusual.
