Watch Description

1954 Bulova Mermaid 'A'

Case looks to be a base metal with plating, as it shows some wear thru; caseback is stainless steel with no datecode; inside is stamped RP Germany and Bulova Watch Co Inc. White dial with radium hands, center sweep second hand in blue. 17-Jewel manual-wind 6BMC Swiss movement dated L4.

Pricelists show several variants A thru F; only A and C at the $49.50 price; the A in this 1955 Ad looks to show number 6773, which according to the 1955 pricelist is the 'A' variant. Another 1955 ad matches the case, but not the dial (3,6,9,12 vs even numbers on subj watch); and the C is a completely different style.

Great watch and good ID.  Mermaid for sure, as that case is so distinct.  And the ad showing the 6773 (and the rest of your process of elimination) strongly suggest it's the "A".
Good work!

Yeah, It doesn't get any easier than this, does it? Great job Ken, she looks beautiful ( nice job on the ID too).

Mermaid A, first of her name.

Odd numbered face is Mermaid "B", same linebook

Both the Mermaid "A" and "B" in this unusual case appear to have been discontinued in 1955, and don't appear in the 1956 or 1957 Linebooks.
