Watch Description

Pretty minty President "A". This one is a classic "sock drawer watch" purchased a few years ago at an estate sale. Shows very little evidence of wear, mostly on the very tips of the high points of band. Accurate time keeper and one of my favorites.

My first thought was that the band determined the variant but I'm walking back from that. It seems that the shaded dial / dial color / style determine the variant. We might have a little clean up to do in the President category of the dB.

There are four known President variants with this style case:

'A' - had the shaded full-numeral (no 6) dial in a yellow case. (model 31113)

'B' - came in a white case and was advertised with the 'A', so we can asume it also had a shaded dial. (model 31115)(white case according to the pricelists)

'C' - had a butler dial with 3,9,12 in a yellow case, and the band shown on subj watch. (model 311175)

'D' - was the black full-numeral (no 6) dial in a yellow case. (model 31119)

Subject watch matches the 'A' variant, but the band does not. Looks to be in very good condition.

Agreed, Ken. Band shows in ads as stock for a "C". Based on where watch came from, overall condition and the A/C variant thing; I wonder if the band difference was a point of sale jeweler swap for customer preference. (1953 ad)

I could certainly see that happening. Why not order the dial you like with the band you like, vs. what was standard offering. Perhaps, as it is now, we buy a watch and immediately replace the band to one that is more to our liking; I have done that numerous times with new watch purchases.
