Watch Description

Ran across this over the weekend. Runs very well considering it needs a thorough cleaning. It appears that someone has tried and erased the markings on the face in the process. 17 jewel Swiss movement. Date stamp on case and movement is L2, movement code is 10BT. 10k rolled gold plate, stainless steel back. New York. I believe it to be a Hawley.

The markings have been removed.
Badly needs a cleaning. Though runs well.

Considering the abuse it has persevered, it works very well. The band it came with was just sad for what it is. At least it does appear someone cared for it, as there are several watch makers marks.

It's a pretty nice watch, I guessing the face was stripped during an attempt to clean the watch by submersing the movement in cleaning solution with the dial still in place. The Hawley, as well as the very similar Senator "B" are two of my favorite case styles of the 1950's. Here is an ad showing the original band.

Thank you. I definately intend to replace the band. I was debating on a leather band versus a metal band. I will look into an expansion band. I find those to be comfortable. This is one I would add to my daily wear watches. Just have to be careful of it when I wash my hands.

Certainly a match for a 1952 Bulova Hawley.

Looks like someone had a go at cleaning the dial. I've been there, some dials hold up well to a gentle wash, others lose the minute track markings as soon as they hear you contemplate the idea in your head. The very early dials are the best for cleaning.

Still it can come down to the owner, and what their preference is....a very very dirty dial or a very very clean dial minus the printed detail.

....oh and there can be a fine line between just clean enough and 'crap' I've gone too far!!!
