Watch Description

Just received this in the mail.  Scarce 1952 checkered dial Academy Award (L2 on back of case).  I've read the great discussion of the one posted a couple of years ago, but thought I'd post mine for the database... http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1952-academy-award-2165  Also, in googling I found a listing from a 2007 auction by Christies in which a checkered dial Academy Award watch sold for a whopping $840.  Interestingly, it was an auction for Film and Entertainment Memorabilia.  Here's their description of the lot  "The Academy Awards  A commemorative Academy Awards watch by Bulova circa 1950, the gilt-plated rectangular watch with nickel-finished lever movement, checkered matte dial with applied Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds, with expandable bracelet, in an imitation ivory semi-circular presentation box lined in pink velvet, the exterior of the box decorated with curtains and an Academy Award statuette, with original Bulova guarantee"   It was their sale 148, lot 1854  Here's a link (I assumed that it wouldn't be appropriate to post the picture here, but its still on their website.)  This is my fifth Academy Award watch, and I'm looking forward to wearing it.  Fun stuff.

1952 would indeed make it an Academy Award model. It appears that it changed its name to Park Lane in 1953.
