This watch takes a crystal thatb was made for the 1950 Academy award 'QQ' watch. I am presuming this is not an academy watch as it is an 'Excellency', one other I have seen before confirms this. So general concensus is that this is the His Excellency 'QQ' model, that is what it shall be known as until proof comes to light of a different name.

The His Excellency "QQ" was listed in the 1950 BB glass catalog, so was likely released in time for Christmas, 1949? Or perhaps sometime in early 1950??
I show only the Academy Award "QQ" and the "Excellency QQ," so agreed... since this isn't a "golden curtain" dial, nor a (50- 53) "X" factor one...

At second glance... I now see (5) models listed (3 more in the 1953 BB glass catalog) as taking the same crystal:
The 1951 Director
The 1953: "His Excellency" models: "QQ, VV & XX"
And also an Excellency "ZZ" I had denoted before... Although I don't know from which catalog/year, in retrospect?
Best :-) Scott
P.S. I list MULTIPLE crystals, so when people COME BACK to these threads... something may "click" in their minds, or at least they then realize that the same crystals DO INDEED often fit 3- 6+ Bulova models... And the "QQ" Excellency and Academy Award model ALMOST CERTAINLY use this same "AA looking" case style... And I'll put my case "dating" and intuitive sense about models in general, up against ANY dealer, collector or watchmaker's, still breathing...

Come on guys! The watch is an Excellency QQ. Perhaps your crystal was mislabelled.
Unless someone can produces proof that is not low resolution, grainy ,can be easily read and clearly pictures this case with the "curtain dial" this case is, and was only used as a Excellency model.
Quit dreaming!
