Watch Description

I recently inherited my late Grandfather's Bulova Watch. I believe it is a Duo Wind. The case is marked L1 for 1951, but the movement is marked L0 for 1950 and 9ASC. Am I correct that this is a 1951 Duo Wind "G"? I think it's a "G," but the second hand is throwing me off. It doesn't have the little forked end. I've been a fan of watches for 20 or so years, and have always wanted a vintage watch and now I finally have 3 (also a Hamilton and Elgin) that are not only vintage, but belonged to my Grandfather so I'm as happy as can be. I can't wait to have it serviced or restored and start wearing it.

Welcome to myBulova!  How wonderful that you inherited your grandfather's watches.  My grandmother's watch started my collection : )

It does look like a Duo Wind to me.  If it is luminous "G", non-luminous "F" according to this ad.  Looks like yours is luminous so I would go with "G"

Here is an ad for the "F" with non-luminous dial.  You can see it doesn't have the extra dot behind the dashes and numbers that the "G" has.

Welcome! I looks like you are correct in your guess.

The ad Kathy references above shows the same second hand as your watch. There is nothing quite as special as an heirloom watch, they are the best!

Thank you both. It is very special. He passed away in 1990 and memories are fading, so it's nice to have something as a physical reminder. This watch works, but I'm afraid to do too much to it as it's probably been sitting in a drawer since the late 60's. In the same box were his purple heart and "ruptured duck" lapel pins as well as his DOE service pins. I was very happy to have received these.

You are welcome.  You are wise not to fully run the watch until you have it serviced and then use and enjoy it.  Especially since you know it has been sitting and hasn't been serviced for that amount of time.

The 9ASC is based on the 9.25''' AS 1320 ebauche. Bulova kept the AS barrel but modded the balance and escapement. On other variants, like the 9AR and 9ARC (also AS 1320), Bulova used a modified Bulova barrel.

1951 Duo Wind 'G' she is indeed.
