Watch Description

Check this out! Case and movement dated 1951. Solid 14K gold and mounted on the original leather band (stamped Bulova in gold) with the original Bulova signed buckle. Watch is signed 6 times.

Purchased from a seller located in the same county in NY outside NYC that the recipient lived in at the time of his death in 1986. He was born in 1921 in Ohio..

The watch is beautiful, but the inscription on this one puts it right over the top. Seller didn't include mention of the inscription in the title and accepted my best offer.

1951 Duncan Awarded by Bulova Watch Co. To Stanley Frank Zlobec In Recognition Of 10 Years Loyal Service.

Now that is an outstanding engraving.  To have a Bulova gifted by Bulova is extra special

That's next level cool. A gold watch after 10 yerrs!!

Also the first time for me seeing a watch from Bulova to one of it's employees. Why have we not seen more of these?

Same here Stephen. The recipient, based on scant info I found, appears to have started at Bulova when he was 20 or 21 in 1941/42; and received this watch when he was 30 or 31, so it is unlikely it's a retirement gift. The basic engraving script on the watch differs from the name, so one could guess this watch was sitting and waiting to have a name added or maybe not

An engraved gold watch at 10 years is an amazing thing. Anyplace I ever worked that gave out service awards gave generic lapel pins and a paper certificate. If it was standard practice to award gold watches for 10 years, you would think one of us would have seen at least one other example. This was a first for me as well.

I wonder if the Bulova museum could shed any light on this one. Wish I could also determine what his job was; as that may reveal why he warranted such a valuable gift for 10 years loyal service if this wasn't standard fare for rank and file employees.

Thanks, Kathy! This was an auction listing I opened based on solid gold in title and almost swallowed my tongue when I saw the case back :o)
