Watch Description

Received this watch as a gift. It had previously belonged to my grandfather. Fairly certain it's a 1951 (date code is L1) Director 'A'. Not sure if this is the original band or not. I doubt he would have changed the band, but it looks different from any of the ads I've found. Back of the band has "SPEIDEL Pat 2.689.450" stamped. Haven't taken the case apart as I've never done that with a timepiece before and I'm nervous about attempting it for this first time on this particular one.

Wow - a wonderful heirloom, make sure to have it professionally serviced if you plan to wear it regularly. My guess is that the band is a more recent replacement and not original. It's possible the original wore out or just broke.
