Hi again Den. First let me compliment you on how your photography is improving trememdously. You've got a beautiful Bulova here. It's a little strange also. A 1949 usually has a date code of "A9" stamped on the back. I don't see that in the photos. The dial doesn't exactly look like a "Douglas" dial to me. But it appears to have been refinished so who knows.

There's no date code on the back cover.I'm thinking 1949 because of the serial # and all the movement has is "48" and not A8 as usual.I'm just taking a stab at Douglas,it seems there were quite a few models using this case or very similar one. Thanks for the compliment,I just started experimenting with a light tent.Just not quite there yet.

Looks like the Douglas to me.  I think we have seen some ads indicating a similar dial in period-colose models may have been offered at Point Of Sale, but this one does look like a redial to me.

I had a closer look at the dial and the paint on it seems a little grainy so it could have had a redial at one time.Any suggestions on which dial should be on there would be most appreciated.

It should look similar to this Den.

I wish I could get International to refinish mine to look like that but mine has painted numbers.I guess I'll have to find a new one. Thanks '55 merc.

Den. I don't think you should change the dial on this one. If you'll do a search on here for 1946 men's models you'll find another one exactly like yours listed Nov. 2014. It's an "unknown" but I think that would just about confirm your watch is an original, just hasn't been identified yet.

A little, but your's is a 1949 and that one is a 1946. There could have been some subtle changes in 3 years. I wouldn't change anything. I like the unknowns. That makes them that much more intriquing to me.
