Watch Description

Hello everybody, I recently purchased this watch because I think it looks great, but I could not find any photos info on that particular model. I think it my be an "his excellency" but I'm not sure. If anybody knows more about this watch I would be very greatful. Thanks!

Solid gold case very nice. I love the A9 stamp cases.

Part of the 'His Excellency' group of watches.

The HE "UU" is a near match except that case has a double hump, rather than just the one like this case. I wonder if the HE "U" would be the same but with a single hump....time to put that theory to the test.

In 1948, this watch with a 3 diamond dial was known as the Director.

Still searching for an exact match for the subject watch.

I looked long and hard for this one; the closest I could come was HE  "UU". In my opinion, based on available ads it's not a His Excellency. To many differences in case. Double versus single point as well as the absence of the "humps" on lug sides and slight curve to lug tops.

Good call on Director, Stephen.

Director seems to be a case, face (minus diamonds), 21J and hand match, as well as solid gold. I'm inclined so say this is a

1949 Director - unknown variant for now.

I have the same watch with a black face. But I also saw someone selling one on e-bay, and the face has the model name Excellency (XXX  active ebay link removed per site rule XXXX). So I am confused. I hope this gives everyone more information, but I might add more confusion. I apologise in advance.

I have the same watch with black face.movementback of the watch

Based on the case and being 14k gold I will agree with Director.

Thank you all very much for your comments. The Director add is know, havent seen that one. It would really fit without the diamonds. Did only the Director line have solid gold cases? Is there a way to find the exact model of the director line or could it maybe have been a customer that said I like the Director Model but please give me a dial without the diamonds?

Thanks again very much for the enlightenment!

Hi Akim, thanks for sharing this wonderful watch. We have a pretty well stocked library of old adverts and some catalogs but we regularly are presented with watches that we can't find any record of in our source material. Right now we're just not 100% certain we know what model your watch is.

We've found examples of watches that jewelers added ornamentation to but it is less likely that a jeweler would have removed the diamonds. That doesn't however remove the possibility that somewhere in the 70 or so years since the watch was made that the dial had to be, or was for some reason, replaced. We normally have no way of knowing if that happened.

Perhaps we'll still find an advert to match it but for now we make the assumption (at least some of us have) that the watch is some variant of the Director model. Incidentally, many Bulova case models were available in sold gold, not just this model.

My suggestion is also that this is a 1949 Bulova Director
