Watch Description

This is a rectangular shaped Bulova watch. The case is 10K gold filled. The back serial number is 7266201. The face is two toned red and white with gold numbers and hands. I have not opened the case (I'm afraid I'll damage it). The watch works - winds up and appears to keep time well. It has a leather band that I think is newer than the watch, a replacement probably. I don't know the year the watch was made or anything else. I made a guess at the year above so I could submit the form. I'd like to find out the year and model name. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to myBulova!  Your watch is most likely a 1947.  The dial has been refinished and without a photo of the movement this will be hard to give an ID as all we have to go by is the case.  I would have to class this as Unknown for now.

Thank you so much Kathy! I'd love to get a peek inside the case but I don't want to damage the watch. Can you point me to where I might find good detailed instructions for how to open the case? I'll have to think it over, maybe find a watch repair shop here to do it for me. Thanks!

You are welcome!  This is the tool I use.  They are inexpensive and you can find them on eBay or Amazon.  I do not encourage people to open cases if they do not feel comfortable doing so but if you want to give it a try put the sharp edge under the little tab on the case back and give it a pop.  It is usually pretty easy to get them off.

It's a 1947 Douglas case. It should have a 21 jewel 8AE movement in it.

As per the discussion on this watch https://www.mybulova.com/watches/1947-douglas-9704 I would be comfortable IDing this by the case as a 1947 Bulova Douglas.  I changed the date and case color.  The 10K gold filled case was yellow.

I am good with a 1947 Bulova Douglas with a refinished dial.

Let's get the movement details before we name this watch.

jflarson, is it possible to either remove the back yourself or take it to someone who will. At that time we'd appreciate a clear photo of the movement. The date code and jewel count will assist us nailing down the ID correctly
