Watch Description

This one was so badly tarnished and listed as 15J, I had no idea what I was bidding on.  I guessed it was an Aviator (15J) or Alderman (17J) as it appeared to be rose gold. It is indeed rose gold over a sterling base which explains the odd coloration that made the watch appear to be tarnished silver.. See last photo as I received it.

1943  Bulova Alderman

Started running on a 1/2 turn of crown and is quite remarkably keeping time.

Referenced ad is dated 1942.

I just love these watches that have a sterling base.  Such a reminder that it was wartime.  You took a gamble and it paid off, the case looks like it cleaned up nicely and I like the weathered dial.

Thanks Kathy. I like the mottled copper dial as well. It makes for a really cool contrast to the nearly perfect case. The spring bars were so badly corroded I had to remove them with wire cutters. I wish it could talk and tell where it has been to look the way it does (and did) and still keep time.

1943 Alderman.

The proces of gold over silver is called 'Vermeil', and some high end brands have used this extensively over the years.
