Watch Description

1942?

Caseback has serial # only.

Inside caseback,BULOVA,10K ROLLED GOLD PLATE BEZEL,STAINLESS BACK,NEW YORK.

Dial has applied gold bulova logo and numbers, sub seconds dial has numerals every 10 seconds and is marked SWISS at the bottom,Gold hands.

Case is small at 26.12mm without the crown and lugs.

The closest model to this that I could find is the 1938 Apollo in the database. They bothseem to share similar dials, hands and case.

Panel Members, help me out here with an ID suggestion.

Bobbee and Jaroslav are on with Apollo

Will and I are in for Unknown

The Apollo in Bobbee's ad is late 40s - 1947 and appears to be from Canada, but it looks the same as the undated and possibly early 40s Interceptor in the Canada ad by Merc; same price as well; this being a 1942 model it would seem that Interceptor would be the closest matching ad and most appropriate. In either case the numerals on the dial are different from subject watch.

I am a tentative Interceptor.

Look at the sub-seconds dial part compared to the 1936 ad Jabs. That part of the dial on the subject watch is larger and goes down into the minute tracks. The dial on the subject watch could be a redial and this section of the dial wasn't correctly done to match the original. Den; have you looked to see if there is one of those tiny "v" notches around the edge of the dial?

Well it is true subdial not fit, I overlooked

It is the same problem even that example, which Dan says in first page "watchophilia's 1936 magazine ad (canadian magazine ad)" there is dial the same as in this advert

Well I just took the movement baack out and it looks like "timerestoration" hit the nail on the head.I didn't have to remove the dial as there is a very distinctive notch at the 12 o'clock mark.Probably an old redial but a redial all the same.I certainly will be looking out for these marks in the future.

It's probably an "Apollo" then Den. I have yet to see a dial refinished that exactly matched the original. That notch explains a lot about why we couldn't find a match.

Yet to have a good look and search. I'm on the fence at the moment.
