Watch Description

1941 Rose Gold 'PRESIDENT'. The Dial appears to be from the 1950's and aftermarket although styled after Bulova of this era. A tell tale sign is the '17 Jewels' written across the top of the sub Seconds Chapter. I have yet to see a genuine Bulova Dial with 17 Jewels written anywhere on it. Applied Gilt numerals wirh the Black Hand combination is typical 1930's art deco styling. A 'FRANKENBULLY',  everyone has at least one....

A much more attractive Watch than the images depict. - The Dial will be refinished minus the bordered Minute and Seconds tracks.

Or you could just the the correct dial.. NOS ones float around now and again.

Sweet case, do those lugs swivel?

Nope... those ones are locked in place.  Look at the 1940 colored ad with the radio tower on it to see quite a few different models from the 40's President line.

Why didn't I think of that?

I just want to clarify- are we saying that Bulova never made a watch with 17 jewels written on it? I know the 23's all say 23. Is this an established fact, or just that we have no ads with such dials shown? Given that black is the most common colour for re-dial, I submit this photo, which is of a watch with correct case markings and correctly marked Bulova movt. It doesn't strike me as an aftermarket dial or redial, but I have no way of knowing either way.

Edit: My apologies, the photo won't load for some reason.

The mid 60's Ruxton/Moonbeam models have been seen with 17 Jewels on the dial

Original Dial? would be a first for Me.

I've also seen late 1950's early 1960's Water tite with 17 Jewels written on the Dial below the Bulova signature.

IMO these Dials are / were non Bulova replacements.

Here's an excerpt from an official Bulova ad dated 1962 showing "17 Jewels" on the dial.

Another "replacement case" theory bites the dust.

Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it didn't exist.

Here's a close up of the first watch, the Minuteman A:

Pay close attention to the Surf King watches, an AW, CW and DW which explains the GW situation. It appears that the CW has the expansion band instead of the leather strap. Hmmmm I guess that makes the watch a variant based on the band and if the watch presented last week uses the expansion band it should be certified as a Surf King CW
