Watch Description

Hello everyone! Adding another Bulova to the database. I'm thinking it is a 1939 Frances, it seems to be a pretty good match to the ad. Movement is a crescent moon putting it at 1938 and case begins with nine so I am assuming 1939. I believe band could be original. Looking to see what you all think! Thanks!

Very attractive watch. The case, movement and band do appear to be Frances, but the face doesn't match the 1939 ad. I find one similar casing in the database, a 1937 Catherine. That one appears to be the same minus the engraving. That dial matches your watch.

I am wondering if the dial might be a transplant or perhaps both dials were used in Frances. That being said, based on the fact we don't have a Frances in the database and the engraved case seems to be unique to the name; I don't personally have a problem with an ID of

1939 Frances, noting the dial difference.

Thank you, I think so too! I didn't even notice the dial, good catch!

Do we think that the notch on the dial at the 3 o'clock position might mean a redial at some point?

It's hard to say from the photos. Are the numbers applied or painted?

The numbers are goldtone applied. Good catch on the potential re-dial notch. Here is a different picture of the dial. 07/29/2022

What a sweet little watch!  I am good with Frances and it looks like an original band to boot!

It does appear to be a 1939 Bulova Frances case with a possible dial swap.  That being said an ad might show up someday showing this as a factory combination.

I think 1939 Bulova Frances a good ID
