I actually think it's the Lady Bulova.

Compare ads side by side then compare to the subject watch.

The Lady Bulova doesn’t have engraving around the crystal. The Barbara has the engraving as does my watch.

The Lady Bulova is also specifically yellow gold. It does not indicate a white gold version.

This advert shows the subtle difference better in case design, near the lugs..

1938 Lady Bulova for me.

Yes there is a slight difference in the case between the Lady Bulova and the Barbara.  The Barbara case is like the Rona https://www.mybulova.com/watches/1939-rona-9082 but with 17 jewels.  I agree the ads do not state white but it probably had a variant in white.

But the Lady Bulova isn’t engraved around the crystal. If there is a white gold variant, it would be a white gold version without the engraving.

It is very common during this time period to see models available in both yellow and white gold with either plain or engraved cases.

The case lug sides match that of the Lady Bulova and not the Barbara.

I agree the shape is a match to the Lady Bulova. The Barbara looks a bit wider. But I wish someone could show me an example of a variant of any model where the difference was the color of the gold and the engraving.

1935 - 1937 Senator. White, yellow, engraved and unengraved. Same case body and no variant designation, all are just Senator.
