Watch Description

Crescent moon is 1938, but case serial would be 1937?

This watch came in a very vintage Martha Washington box, and has lived there for many years, however I do believe what we have here is a round dial Goddess of Time.

The hands are not original, should be stick hands.

I have included the pic of the box just for the sake of a record.

Agree, Goddess of Time it is. What a great design, lots of style packed into that little watch.

Very interesting.

The display ad for the 'GODDESS OF TIME' clearly states Yellow RGP, in checking all of the ads in the database and in the forums dated 1935 - 1938 state Yellow .

The subject Watch is White, is found in a 'MARTHA WASHINGTON'  box and seems to fit the imprint of yet We are eager to ID the Watch as the 'GODDESS OF TIME'.

is it?

Reverend,

Can You confirm the Case colour of the Watch and Year of the advertisement?

The case is definitely white gold plate. I have no reason to believe the watch and box belong together, I see this a lot. The watch may have been stored in the box for a long time, and keep in mind the little black insert is removable, but still, it doesn't match any Martha Washingtons I have found.

The ad I included is 1939. The GoT came in either square or round dial, and this is the round dial as noted. Despite the fact that none of the ads list a white gold version, I think it matches thee GoT, the MW is also shown as Yellow in all? cases, and usually square.

Unless the Goddess changed into the MW at some point, by virtue of the colour? But the years in question don't seem to show this.

Still digging in the new ads.

I should also mention that the hands on my watch are not original. It came with gold 'stick' hands, and one of them was so badly damaged, I replaced both with the only Bulova hands I had on hand. The hour hand size is 1.05, and it doesn't match any of my Bulova assortments.

Interestingly, there are a number of Bulova models that use the 6AZ, and the hands are, as you might expect, different for the different models. However, you cannot substitute hands in most cases, becaus the pipe size is also different. That doesn't make it impossible, but does make it a pain, because in order to change the hand style you have to change the Hour wheel and CP. For example, most of my Bulova hands for 6''' are 1.10, and of the half dozen or so 6AZ's I have, they are also all 1.10 or larger.  I think I am going to start making note of the hand pipe sizes.

Bulova Goddess of Time for me. There are no matching adverts for this watch as a Martha Washington and those that I've found are diamond based watches.

I'm sure we'll find that this is simply the white gold version.
