Watch Description

Gold case, S/N 189489 on case, not sure of year.  I don't know how to remove the movement although case back is hinged.  My grandfather's watch.  Appreciate any help in identifying the year and model.

10/8/2011 - Changed year to 1935 based on closer examination of the case mark and movement mark.

Not to be Geekish but a point of history you may want to pass on with this watch is, 1935 is the year that Bulova movement production went into full swing tn the U.S.A. Your family must have been doing very well during the great depression, to afford a solid gold watch.

I have only seen one U.S.A. movement dated 1934

The Case appears very similar to the 'MASTERCRAFT'

'MASTERCRAFT' showing a sub Dial - 17J vs 21J.

1938 ad.

Looks a lot like this one. 1937 ad.

Bobbee's July 1937 ad next to subject watch.  I know the ad says "Natural Gold", but is the $39.75 price consistent with that of other similar-period solid gold watches in the ads?  Is the subject watch bezel as "wide" as that of the ad?  Case looks close though. Jewel count difference 17 vs 21.

Are we using first digit of case serial number for dating these solid gold cases (subject watch below)?

I think the relationship is not as strong for several of the examples we have, but don't remember for sure.

This a "Knickerbocker" per the 1937 Ad?

Nice ad find.

I am not convinced.   The jewel count being wrong and the bezel on the case seems wider on the Knickerbocker.  Additionally there is a price discrepancy indicating the Knickerbocker is not gold.   Super close though..

Agree, $39.75 seems on the low side for a solid gold watch.
